I’m such a lover of cities – the skylines, the hustle and bustle, the well-cut suits – I tend to write about people who love the same, meaning I don’t often have the chance to pen stories set in the vast, disparate wilds of Australia.
But after writing the Wed in the Outback series with wonderful friends and writers Michelle Douglas, Rachel Stewart and Kandy Shepherd two years ago, the chance to go back into that world with them was too good to pass up! And so the OUTBACK KINGS series was born. The diversity of landscape, the way colours change with the light, the kind of heat that makes the air shimmer, the storms that can turn miles of flat road into an inland lake - Kings Reach (our made up cattle station deep in the Kimberly) was an instant inspiration. Sending my city girl, London journalist Mackenzie Lawler on the sniff of a story, into that environment, and watching her fall in love with the place, and with Fitz King, a man as Outback as they come, was an absolute kick. I hope Mack and Fitz's love story - CITY GIRL IN THE OUTBACK - as well as the stories of Fitz's brothers - Tom, Logan and Jack in the other Outback Kings books - gives you as much joy as it has me. |
